About this event
The best way to reduce carbon emissions from construction is to build less. While methods of reducing embodied carbon are evolving, this technology alone is unlikely to reduce emissions in alignment with the targets we have set. Planners and policy makers have an opportunity to provide another solution - designing cities that can meet their growing community’s mobility and lifestyle needs while minimising the necessity of carbon-intensive, new builds. The benefits of this approach extend far beyond just emissions reduction, impacting housing supply, health, and lifestyle factors to name a few.
This webinar featured insights from industry experts in this field and included a interactive component following the presentations, where attendees can ask questions and contribute to the discussion.
Facilitated by AITPM CEO Kirsty Kelly, we have three great presentations lined up including and international speaker from the UK:
- Peter Kartsidimas - Director of Networks and Planning | Infrastructure Victoria
- Sara Stace - Director of Cities and Tim Sullivan - Principal Transport Planner - Net Zero | WSP in Australia
- Simon Pope - Technical Director | WSP in the UK
For any enquiries, please contact Kirsty Kelly
Peter Kartsidimas | Infrastructure Victoria
As Director Research & Policy at Infrastructure Victoria, Peter plays a key role in the delivery of complex and expert advice across a range of infrastructure matters, including transport, land use and infrastructure planning.
Peter has more than two decades’ experience working across the public and private sectors in the planning and design of infrastructure projects, mostly in the transport sector. This includes working interstate and internationally, in the United Kingdom, on several urban centre regeneration projects, with a focus on sustainable modes of transport. Peter has served as a volunteer on several organisations, including as AITPM WA State President, the National Chair of the Transport Modelling Network and as the Chair of the Cycling and Walking Australia New Zealand (CWANZ) Design Innovations Working Group.
Sara Stace | WSP
Sara is a city shaper, strategic thinker and innovator on cities, land use and urban transport. She is the Regional Executive for Infrastructure Advisory at WSP, and Director of Cites providing strategic advice on urban policy and place. Sara has worked for 25 years for federal, state and local governments and the private sector. This includes lead roles for walking and cycling strategy at Transport for NSW, Director National Urban Policy for Infrastructure Australia, and general manager of an ASX-listed property fund. She has written and co-authored 20 publications for the United Nations, Australian Government and others.
Tim Sullivan | WSP
Tim has been a consistent champion of sustainable and inclusive transport across a range of public and private sector roles for nearly 17 years. Originally from the UK but living in Australia since 2011, Tim has firsthand experience of the two countries’ differing approaches to climate change adaptation and mitigation. His work experience ranges from policy and program development at Surrey County Council to major infrastructure projects and includes a recent two-year stint in State Government. In his current role at WSP, Tim’s focus is embedding net zero thinking into all transport planning and design projects and developing innovative tools and methodologies to help clients with the sometimes daunting decarbonisation challenge.
Simon Pope | WSP
Simon Pope is a Technical Director and leader of WSP UK’s Transport Net Zero Team. He has advised a broad range of local transport authorities on the scale of the decarbonisation challenge and the package of policy measures needed to address it. He is working closely with regional transport bodies in the UK to develop supporting evidence to help shape the next generation of Local Transport Plans that respond to the net zero agenda. Simon has also advised the UK Government on quantifiable carbon reductions to support decarbonisation in local transport planning.
