SA Branch Highlights
AITPM 2023/2024 Year in Focus
Bill Cirocco, SA Branch President
What were your highlights of FY23/24?
Essentially, we got the Branch back to the basics by providing a high number of varying technical forums to cater for the diverse traffic and transport professionals.
What was your favourite event(s) of the year?
The half-day seminar during Road Safety Week in which the Minister for Police opened the seminar. The branch had not held this type of seminar for many years and was attended by 62 paying delegates. The seminar was held in at the Stamford Plaza Hotel in the city.
What was the biggest challenge and how did you and your committee overcome it?
Holding a high number of events, so thank you to the committee in helping to make this happen.
Which partners, sponsors and stakeholders did you work with to achieve your outcomes?
With only one Branch Sponsor we approached different organisations to sponsor our technical forums, which we did successfully. We will continue to engage with them to sponsor future events. We worked closely with the universities regarding Emerging Professionals. We also had discussions with the State Government’s key transport authority and the Royal Automobile association.
What are the burning or emerging transport and industry issues in South Australia?
The shortage of experienced traffic engineers, particularly in local government as well as the reduction in the number of experienced traffic and transport professionals in State Government.
What's been happening with the emerging professionals in South Australia?
The EPs have been guest speakers at the some of the universities’ transport lectures to encourage students to consider our industry.
We had multiple events for Emerging Professionals with a small core group attending and hope to build this group in the future.
What is the focus for the Branch in FY24/25
Preparing for the 2025 National Conference and firming our relationship with the State Transport Department.
What are you most excited about?
Our focus has been revitalising the branch.
Are there any acknowledgments that you would like to share?
Thank you to the committee, and particularly the office bearers.
