Traffic Management
Bike priority over vehicles in Amsterdam
Graeme Pattison sent in a link to a video that shows how bikes in Amsterdam are given their own lanes at a round about and given priority when they have conflict with a vehicle.
Graeme noted that some cyclists waved motorists on (i.e. ceding away their priority) in a cooperative fashion.
Alan Finlay also thinks it is impressive, including that cyclists are prepared to take the long way around the roundabout, instead of riding contra flow on the shortest route. He is not sure that our cyclists or motorists would be so disciplined.
Protection from Ice Missiles
As a road safety measure, we often advise people who park their cars in snow areas to remove ice and snow from their vehicle before driving so that it doesn’t cover your windscreen, hit another car or pedestrian or just leave a big pile of snow on the road.
Some states in America allow police to ticket motorists if their vehicle is considered a danger but only a handful have laws specific to ice missiles.
There are moves for American states to have ice and snow on a car a specific illegal act.
New Guide will improve safety of road workers and users across Australasia
Austroads has released a new 10-Part Guide to Temporary Traffic Management (AGTTM) to improve the safety and efficiency of temporary traffic management on road worksites across Australia and New Zealand.
