Careers in Transport Project
AITPM is undertaking a project to communicate the value and diversity of careers in transport, with a focus on planning, designing, delivering, operating, managing, and supporting transport systems. The project aims to design and produce a suite of audience-first collateral that will showcase the roles, skills, and outcomes of transport professionals and practitioners, and position AITPM as the go-to authority on transport careers.
Project Objectives
- Design a suite of fit-for-purpose, audience-first collateral that will eventually become a national resource for Australians exploring a career in transport.
- Drive target audiences to newly developed AITPM transport careers resources and assets.
- Raise the profile of the careers in the transport community.
- Demonstrate the value of the transport community/AITPM and their contribution to society.
- Increase awareness of transport-related study pathways and careers.
- Promote the value of diversity in the transport sector.
- Promote ‘hidden careers’ in the transport sector (i.e. careers/roles that are typically not associated with transport).
- Position AITPM as the go-to authority on transport careers.
- Produce a range of shareable content for amplification by identified stakeholders.
Project Update May 2024
A working group has been established based on a range of representatives that expressed interest via the Industry Briefings held during 2023, along with representatives from the emerging professionals, government, and academia. The project team has completed the initial discovery workshop with the working group of AITPM members and stakeholders, and developed a Content and Communications Plan that outlines the objectives, key messages, target audiences, and proposed assets for the project.
The project team is currently working on the concept and design of the primary asset, which is a web-based interactive tool that will allow users to explore the different stages and roles involved in delivering a transport system or a city. The project team is also seeking input from the working group members and the Emerging Professionals network on the selection and prioritisation of the transport roles to be featured in the primary and secondary assets, as well as the content and format of the role profiles.
