Individual Membership
Individuals with an interest or working within the transport industry are encouraged to join AITPM in order to strengthen their connections with the industry, extend their professional networks and to take advantage of the exclusive news and updates provided by the Institute.
Individual members of AITPM benefit both directly and indirectly including through:
- Upgraded skills and knowledge gained via AITPM state and national events

- Exclusive access to garnered industry news and trends
- Professional credibility – AITPM members are widely respected within the industry and membership of the Institute is often a sought after key criteria in recruitment process.
Individual memberships are available in 5 grades, based on experience and status of industry involvement.

Affiliate Member - $225 per year - INSTANT MEMBERSHIP UPON PAYMENT
Open to:
Individuals with an interest in the field of transport planning and/or traffic management. No specific qualifications or experience is required.
Notes:
- The AITPM Membership period runs from 01 April to 31 March annually, regardless of when in the calendar year a member joins.
- An admin fee of $30.00 is payable on first application. This fee does not apply when moving from one membership category to another.
Student - Undergraduate and Post-Graduate - Free
Open to:
Individuals currently enrolled for study in undergraduate degrees, postgraduate qualifications, and PhD candidates studying in an AITPM related field.
Student Membership is offered for students undertaking study prior to joining the AITPM related workforce and is the entry level membership for people new to the field.
Enrolment may be for full-time study or part-time study, noting that existing practitioners working in this field are generally not eligible for Student Membership. Existing practitioners returning to study, particularly part-time study, are to retain their current AITPM membership grade while studying (if they are a member), or to join the AITPM as an Affiliate member (if not currently a member).
Notes:
- Evidence of current student status and completion dates must be provided on application and on 1 April each year when the next membership period starts.
- The AITPM Membership period runs from 01 April to 31 March annually, regardless of when in the calendar year a member joins.
- Once Students and Post Graduates complete their study, they should apply to upgrade to Associate First Year member.
Associate Member - $105 - $225 per year depending on years of experience
Associate First Year - $105
- Open to practitioners who have less than one year of experience in an AITPM related field.
Associate Second Year - $165
- Open to practitioners who have at least one year of experience in an AITPM related field.
Associates Three Years or more - $225
- Open to practitioners who:
a) have had at least two years of experience in an AITPM related field.
OR
b) have had less than three years in appropriate professional experience in the field of transport planning and/or traffic management, including research, gained through a recognised organisation, and are actively practicing in the field of traffic planning or traffic management.

- The AITPM Membership period runs from 01 April to 31 March annually, regardless of when in the calendar year a member joins.
- An admin fee of $30.00 is payable on first application. This fee does not apply when moving from one membership category to another.
- Associate First Year Members will be automatically rolled up to Associate Second Year Member status on the 1 April each year and invoiced accordingly, regardless of the date of joining. Associate First Year Members who are eligible to remain at their current level for another year will need to submit evidence of eligibility.
- Associate Second Year Members will be automatically rolled up to Associate Membership on the 1 April each year and invoiced accordingly, regardless of the date of joining. Associate Second Year Members who are eligible to remain at their current level for another year will need to submit evidence of eligibility.
- Once Associate Members are eligible for upgrade to Member status, they should apply for a membership upgrade.
- Please note you will be required to upload a copy of your resume during this application process.
Member - $225 per year
Open to practitioners who have had appropriate professional experience for a period of at least three years in the field of transport planning and/or traffic management, including research, gained through a recognised organisation, and are actively practicing in the field of traffic planning or traffic management

- Please note you will be required to upload a copy of your resume and provide contact details for two referees during this application process.
Fellow - $225 per year
Open to practitioners who have over ten years’ experience in the industry or associated fields AND meet a number of other criteria related to responsibility, contribution to the AITPM, and AITPM membership. Refer to the detailed criteria in the Member Portal.
Notes:
- Fellow Membership can only be attained by upgrading from Member status and must be nominated by two AITPM Fellows or Life Members.

Existing members can upgrade membership to higher grades and are also eligible for discounted rates upon retirement and in circumstances such as career and parenting breaks, or during hardship.
Subscriptions are also available for organisations in the form of either Government Subscribers or Corporate Subscribers.
