Located on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Noosa is synonymous with unique coastal trails, lush hinterland, wildlife, cafes, and boutiques. The Shire is home to over 56,000 residents across an area of 870km2.
Noosa Council has a clear purpose, to work with and for the community to continue to make Noosa a great place to live, work and visit. The focus of Council’s 2023-2028 Corporate Plan is on protecting the amenity of Noosa and preserving the rich natural environment for the future.
The Noosa Transport Strategy 2017-2027 identifies 8 overarching principles and key transport challenges for the region including congestion at peak times, car dependence, topography and climate, funding and shortfalls in services and infrastructure. Through this strategy, Council strives towards an efficient, free flowing, innovative transport system that enhances resident and visitor experiences, and results in sustainable environmental outcomes.
THE ROLE
This is quite simply a one-of-a-kind opportunity. As the Sustainable Transport Coordinator, you will drive sustainable transport projects and initiatives, including modal shift onto public and active transport, as well as catering for new forms of transport such as e-bikes. You will lead and manage a high performing and dedicated team to deliver and implement the Transport strategies, parking management plans, traffic studies and strategic business cases with an emphasis on service delivery and productivity in a challenging traffic environment.
Key accountabilities:
- Coordinate and manage feasibility studies, project planning and design, project management, financial management and consultation with stakeholders, consultants, and the public.
- Research, evaluate and make recommendations to Council on proposals and issues relating to transport projects as detailed in the Transport Strategy 2017-2027, both short and long-term projects. Lead the development of future capital works programs and/or transport levy as directed.
- Coordinate the Transport and Traffic team and their day-to-day activities, focusing on customer requests, heavy vehicle permits, event permit traffic management plans approvals and parking management.
- Implement a project management framework to the planning and delivery of all transport and traffic initiatives, including embracing the Noosa design principles.
- Provide transport and traffic engineering advice on civil engineering design plans prepared internally or by external civil engineering consultants.
- Collaborate with other council departments, government agencies, community stakeholders, funding bodies, and industry players to maximise the attainment of strategy targets.
ABOUT YOU
This is an outstanding opportunity in a truly unique location and one which will suit a professional who has a passion for sustainable transport strategies. You will bring to this role extensive experience in providing integrated transport and traffic engineering services to ensure the delivery of a safe and efficient transport network, and in the implementation of transport planning initiatives within the context of design quality and best practice.
In addition, with relevant tertiary qualifications, the successful candidate will have previous demonstrated leadership experience of a transport and traffic team including the ability to create a positive team culture.
