About this event
Join us for a premier technical seminar that brings together road safety professionals from across government, industry, and academia to share insights, build connections, and work collaboratively towards safer roads for all users.
This half-day event, jointly hosted by the Australasian College of Road Safety (ACRS) and the Australian Institute of Traffic Planning and Management (AITPM), is designed as a dynamic platform for sharing the latest thinking, best practice, and innovative approaches in road safety.
In support of Australia’s commitment to the Vision Zero approach - where no death or serious injury on our roads is considered acceptable - this event aims to foster collaborative action and shared responsibility. By connecting professionals across sectors, we can collectively drive the systemic change needed to achieve safer outcomes for everyone on the transport network.
The program features a mix of keynote presentations and technical sessions, offering valuable perspectives from state government, local government, private consulting, and research. Speakers will address emerging trends, real-world project learnings, and the critical role of integrated approaches to road safety across the profession. Whether you're interested in policy, planning, engineering, enforcement, or evaluation, this seminar will provide valuable content tailored to your role.
The event begins with arrival coffee and networking, followed by a morning of high-profile speakers including a keynote from GHD’s Adam Wilmot. After morning tea, attendees will hear from a range of expert presenters including the Chair of Bike Adelaide, David Elliott, Centre for Automotive Safety Research, Dr Mario Mongiardini, and respected Transport Lead, Tanya Bacic - City of Unley, culminating in a panel Q&A session. The seminar concludes with a networking lunch, providing further opportunity to strengthen connections across sectors and disciplines.
This event is especially relevant to professionals working in:
- Local government and state road agencies
- Private consulting firms involved in transport and infrastructure
- Universities and research institutions
- Not-for-profit and advocacy organisations with an interest in road safety
Through a balance of technical content and informal engagement, this seminar is an opportunity to support your professional development while contributing to collective efforts to make our roads safer.
Registrations close at 2pm on Thursday 8 May 2025

David Elliott | Chair | Bike Adelaide
David Elliott is Chair of Bike Adelaide and a life-long cyclist. He advocates for safe and inclusive streets that make active transport possible and desirable for people of all ages and abilities. As previous Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Adelaide, he focussed on initiatives to unlock latent demand for transport cycling, building community support for better transport options and implementing separated bikeways.
Dr Mario Mongiardini | Researcher | Centre for Automotive Safety Research
Dr Mongiardini is a researcher at CASR with experience in evaluating safety benefits of novel road infrastructure. He has worked on a variety of projects involving vulnerable road users, including a perceptual lane marking design to improve safety of motorcyclists on dangerous curves along rural routes and a novel 3D perceptual lane marking for traffic calming in areas with high pedestrian activity. He has also been involved in safety evaluations of Intersection Speed Zones devices in SA, namely RIAWS and RJAWS. Beside of road infrastructure, he is involved in computer modelling activities for passive safety evaluations and injury biomechanics.
Tanya Bacic | Transport Lead | City of Unley
Tanya is the Transport Lead at the City of Unley, bringing over two decades of experience in the transport industry. Since 2000, she has successfully navigated both public and private sectors, contributing to projects across Australia and internationally. With a passion for developing safe, sustainable, and innovative transport solutions, Tanya is dedicated to addressing the increasing challenges of traffic congestion and parking in urban areas. Her ultimate goal is to transform Adelaide - particularly Unley - into a safer and more accessible environment for people of all ages and abilities to walk and bike for both transportation and recreation. In addition to her role at the City of Unley, Tanya is the current Chair of the Walking SA Transport Committee, where she advocates for active transport initiatives to enhance community safety and connectivity.
