About this event
This is a webinar where the winner and finalists for the AITPM 2022 Excellence Award will discuss how they have utilised best practice and innovative techniques to deliver projects that help to realise the AITPM vision to achieve a 'sustainable, efficient, safe, multimodal transport system that is accessible by all communities'. Conveniently tune in to this webinar to listen to those involved first-hand in delivering the projects. A short amount of time will also be allocated for questions that attendees may like to ask. The three projects that will be presented and the speakers are:
1. City of Ryde Integrated Transport Strategy 2041 (City of Ryde) - WINNER
Speakers: Michael Dixon | Transport Planning Lead, Turnbull Engineering, formerly Manager Transport, City of Ryde and David Anderson | Senior Coordinator, Transport Planning, City of Ryde
The City of Ryde Integrated Transport Strategy 2041 is an innovative long-term plan that prioritises sustainable modes of transport, advocates for early consideration of major infrastructure and service needs, and has internal and external stakeholder buy-in. It contains a clear action plan and aligns where appropriate with Transport for NSW's Future Transport 2056.
2. Gold Coast Road Safety Plan 2021-2026 (City of Gold Coast)
Speaker: Renée Wise | Executive Coordinator, Transport Network Management, City of Gold Coast
The Gold Coast Road Safety Plan 2021-2026 adopts a localised safe system approach which speaks to the City's full community of transport system users regardless of their age, ability, skill and experience. It considers the variety of transport modes and activity types, and acknowledges emerging road safety technologies and system elements. The Plan is governed by a Partnership Advisory Group, a variety of internal and external stakeholders that have strategic and operational interests in road safety. The Plan contains 50 actions and year one initiatives are already yielding positive outcomes - for road users and the planning and evaluation of significant transport projects.
3. Streets as Shared Spaces: Manly (Northern Beaches Council)
Speaker: Phillip Devon | Manager Transport Network, Northern Beaches Council
The Streets as Shared Spaces: Manly project is part of a package of works that seeks to improve and activate the connections around town centres and beaches on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Council developed a plan which was tested with the community and subsequently refined to include on-street dining, garden beds and planter boxes and low-level lighting. Parking was removed to facilitate the improved place outcomes. Council is working with surrounding businesses to manage the use of street furniture in the evenings, whilst it is used for communal dining during the day.
Michael Dixon | Turnbull Engineering
Michael is a seasoned all-rounder in transport engineering and planning and currently the Transport Planning Lead at Turnbull Engineering, a well-regarded Sydney-based transport engineering consultancy. Prior to joining Turnbull Engineering in April 2022, Michael was the Project Director for the City of Ryde’s new Integrated Transport Strategy as the Council’s Manager, Transport. Michael established transport planning at the City of Ryde. During his time at Council he was also Project Director for the refresh of Council’s Bicycle Strategy.
Michael has led teams in both State and Local Government. Notable State Government projects that Michael has led include the Greater Sydney Road Network Plan, Motorway Network Enhancement Plan and Performance Framework, Golden Highway Corridor Strategy, and Regional Corridor Strategy guidance notes.
David Anderson | City of Ryde
David has over 30 years of transport management and executive policy and advocacy experience with large organisations such as the NRMA, RTA and RMS. He has also worked for peak industry associations, local government, and smaller private transport companies.
While with NRMA, David was involved in transitioning the business from a specialist motoring club to a peak community organisation. At RTA, David was responsible for speed management, including introduction of the 50 km/h general urban speed limit, as well as operational policy for fixed speed cameras.
David is currently Senior Coordinator - Transport Planning at City of Ryde, and was the Project Manager for Integrated Transport Strategy 2041. David is also an associate lecturer / tutor in project management at the University of Sydney.
Renée Wise | City of Gold Coast
Renée is the Executive Coordinator for Transport Network Management at City of Gold Coast. Renee has worked in both the private and public sectors in traffic engineering, transport strategy, and infrastructure planning. More recently, she was integrally involved in the development of Council's Road Safety Plan, covering coastal high density urban areas right through to the Gold Coast hinterland. Renee has extensive experience collaborating with external stakeholders to achieve cross-agency shared objectives in road safety.
Phillip Devon | Northern Beaches Council
Phillip is an experienced transport network manager with both private and public sector experience. He has worked in traffic engineering, development impact assessment and project development, and also has a good grasp of objectives for sustainable network development and how they can be implemented successfully. Phillip has extensive experience liaising with internal and external stakeholders to achieve better place outcomes and road safety objectives whilst considering the needs of the local community and businesses.
