As Sydneysiders, we use public transport to go about our daily lives! But as we take trains, ferries, buses, and light rail, we likely take the systems—and the complex legacy of more than 165 years of planning and development—for granted. For this month’s AITPM Young Professionals event, we’ll take the chance to learn about the everyday infrastructure that keeps Sydney moving. The tour will take us on a journey to explore unique spaces and hear stories that reveal the history of the city’s transport networks, from hidden tunnels beneath Hyde Park, to the missing platforms at Wynyard, to the Battle of Central Station that changed the Australian relationship with alcohol.
We will be led by architect, urban designer, and academic Michael Kahn, who recently completed his PhD examining architecture’s role in helping shape the mega transport projects reshaping the city.
This is a walking tour where we will catch public transport, so walking shoes and an Opal card will be required. Drinks and networking afterwards.
This is an exclusive tour and the maximum number of attendees is capped at 20 to improve attendee experience.
Please ensure that you meet the Government heath guidelines and practice good hygiene. If you have been unwell within the past 21 days, we strongly suggest you do not attend.
