About this event
Hosted by our Sustainable Transport partner, WSP, on how to turn net zero strategy into tangible results, this breakfast event featured a panel discussion and keynote presentation.
David Symons, WSP’s Global Lead for Innovation is visiting Australia from the UK and shared his experience on the decarbonisation of the transport network in an opening keynote presentation with the UK’s National Highways as a case study.
David was joined by our panel of experts to further explore how we can further address Net Zero challenges in strategic planning that are carried through delivery and implementation.

David Symons | Global Lead for Innovation | WSP
David leads WSP’s global Future ReadyTM programme, is a leader of their Earth & Environment business in the UK and is driving WSP's commitment to halve the carbon in their designs and advice by 2030. With more than 30 years of experience in business sustainability and the environment, David manages some of our most complex sustainability consulting assignments. This includes working with global brands such as UK National Highways, Walmart, IKEA and Maersk as well as governments and municipalities. He was voted one of the 100 most impactful environmental professionals by ENDS Report and recognised as the Society for Environment’s Professional of The Year and Business Green’s Leader of the Year. David has provided recent commentary on environmental and social issues to Sky News, BBC Radios Four, FiveLive and Two, as well as national print media.
Rob Stokes | Federal Government - Member for Urban Policy Reform and former NSW Minister for Cities and Active Transport
Rob Stokes is the chair of the Net Zero Cities CRC and Faith Housing Alliance, and serves on the Australian Government’s Urban Policy Forum.
He was an MP in NSW from 2007 to 2023 representing Pittwater. His most recent portfolio was Minister for Infrastructure, Cities and Active Transport, with previous portfolios covering planning and education.
Rory Brown | Acting Executive Director, Smart Places | Transport for NSW
Rory is the Acting Executive Director, Smart Places, in the Cities and Active Transport Division at Transport for NSW, and has been part of NSW’s Smart Places award-winning revolution since its inception in 2019. In this role he drives an agenda to deliver great places and outcomes for people using connected technologies and data solutions, working collaboratively across all tiers of government, with the research and academia sector and industry. His passion lies in combining a data- and technology-first approach with a citizen- or customer-led lens to smart places.
Amelia Loder | Manager, Sustainability | Sydney Metro
Amelia Loder is a Sustainability Manager on the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport Project. She has a background in mechanical engineering, energy and carbon consulting and climate risk assessment. She is passionate about making a practical difference as we tackle climate change and work towards net zero.
Sara Stace | Regional Executive Infrastructure Advisory | WSP
Sara's professional mission is to do what she can to halt our impacts on earth's planetary boundaries, and to help people to thrive. Sara is a city shaper, strategic thinker and innovator on cities, land use, and urban transport. She has worked at federal, state and local government, and private sector over 25 years. Sara is a member of the Board of World Cycling Alliance and Better Streets. As an advocate and trusted leader in sustainable transport, Sara has authored/co-authored 20 publications including for United Nations, Australian Government, and an artificial intelligence (AI) patent. She has won 16 national and state awards for excellence in project delivery, program management and contribution to the public sector.
