About this event
AITPM QLD Branch in collaboration with RMA Engineering were proud to host this in-person event in Toowoomba, Qld.
Attendees heard for a number of speakers on:
- Designing for Active Transport in Brownfield Situations | Adam Gwatking
Active transport, which encompasses walking, cycling, and public transportation, has emerged as a critical aspect of urban planning and community design. As cities grapple with urbanisation, prioritising active transport becomes essential.
In brownfield situations, and within the older built-up areas of Toowoomba, implementation of active transport provisions presents unique challenges.
Adam will present on the challenges that are faced with designing for compliant active transport provisions in areas with existing constraints. This includes understanding different types of active travel, types of constraints, changing standards and designs to help improve the safety of active travel users. Adam will present real world examples of recent projects showcasing challenges and constraints (such as the Toowoomba Hospital) and illustrates practical solutions to certain situations.
- How inclusive are Transport Impact Assessments towards Active Transport? | Bruce Steel
We often hear about the need for more inclusive transport and movement choices for people, however … how inclusive are the discussions in Transport Impact Assessments (TIAs) towards including Active Transport? Bruce’s presentation will discuss a process to objectively understand the pre- and post- development AT environments for better informed discussions between traffic engineers, developers, and assessors, and their decision-making – all for better, more inclusive AT infrastructure/facilities.
- Munich or Bus(t)’ - What happens when a City embraces active transport in their day to day lives | John Burton
