About this event
The AITPM SA Transport Modelling Network (TMN) is proud to bring you the first Technical Forum for 2023 generously sponsored by Clarity Consult. Join us for a cocktail lunch at The Gallery and hear from Trent Ekanayake, Director of Clarity Consult, and Lam Nguyen, Strategic and Operational Modelling Consultant, as they present on “The Modelling Toolkit and Advancements in Hybrid Model Development for Practical Applications”.
This Technical Forum is the perfect opportunity for professionals to network with like-minded engineers and planners within the Transport Modelling Network, learning about something new in the transport modelling industry and for those looking to get into the industry to get more insights into the kind of work that is undertaken.
“The Modelling Toolkit and Advancements in Hybrid Model Development for Practical Applications”
Topic Overview:
Transport modelling, when applied effectively, can add value through every stage of the infrastructure lifecycle. Beit strategic models for business cases or microsimulation models for design validation and testing. While these individual layers of modelling provide strong outcomes for project evaluations, there are often gaps in scope and scale when evaluating aspects of the transport network (i.e. micro-sim too small geographically and strategic models too simplified in terms of network representation). However, with recent advancements in technology and the rise of open data sources, there's been an emergence of hybrid models that can integrate these different types of models and be developed without the need for exhaustive and costly data collection. These models can often fill multipurpose applications, be developed in a cost-effective manner and provide the flexibility to look at everything from mode shifts to intersection performance - all within a single tool! This session will provide an overview of innovative applications of conventional modelling tools, as well as examples of hybrid models and how they can be developed and applied in a timely manner for enhanced project assessment outcomes.
This event is kindly sponsored by: Clarity Consult
This event will be held on the Thursday 9 March 2023 and will start at 11:30am (Adelaide Time) with the formal presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session before the lunch and networking.
For catering purposes, registration is required and will be limited to 40 attendees. Registrations for this event will close at COB on Tuesday 7 March 2023.

Trent Ekanayake | Clarity Consult
Trent Ekanayake is the Founding Director of Clarity Consult, a specialised transport modelling and advisory firm. With over a decade of experience across global advisory and engineering consulting firms, Trent provides deep holistic technical expertise across the full spectrum of transport modelling and its associated platforms. He has also been instrumental in the development of integrated modelling frameworks. When he can get away from work, Trent enjoys travelling, good food, wine, peated whisky or boutique gin (but not all at the same time).
Lam Nguyen | Clarity Consult
Lam Nguyen is a transport modelling consultant, with experience across; strategic, mesoscopic and microsimulation modelling. Lam also possesses strong data analytic and geospatial analysis skills. When he is not working (towards a Tesla Model 3), Lam enjoys playing the piano and getting active playing soccer and badminton.
