Transforming Perth’s Freeways
Western Australia is seeing an unprecedented amount of investment in its transport infrastructure in order to Keep WA Moving. A key part of this investment is projects planned, and being delivered for our freeways. Mehdi will talk about the Transforming Perth’s Freeways strategic program by Main Roads, and how we intend to progressively build on, and unlock the full potential of our freeway transport corridors.
Chris Sharples - Principal Network Planning Analyst
A Picture Tells a Thousand Tonnes – Building a Narrative around Freight
Our freight transport network is complex and is comprised of many moving parts. Yet we live in a world where people – including key decision makers – are time poor and prone to information fatigue. The WA Department of Transport has changed its approach to strategic freight planning in recent years, and discusses how focusing on specific regions and supply chains has helped to provide a clearer narrative that keeps the audience engaged.

Level crossing removal across Perth’s metropolitan network
One down, thirty to go: eight more level crossings are scheduled to be removed through the METRONET program, and the PTA has a masterplan for removal of the remainder. This presentation will give an update on progress with the METRONET removals and outline the PTA’s approach for the other twenty two.

Developing a network of safe cycling infrastructure in a car-centric city
Perth’s bike network blueprint, known as the Long Term Cycling Network project, is a State and local government collaborative effort which seeks to identify a function-based network of primary, secondary and local routes across the Perth metropolitan area. Linking activity centres, parks, schools, community facilities and transport services, this future network will make bike riding a convenient and viable option for people of all ages and abilities.
Identifying aspirational routes in the context of the functional role they play for their users helps to elevate their importance in the overall transport network. Supported by appropriate levels of funding to deliver a safe, comfortable and connected network will be critical to tempting ‘interested but concerned’ bike riders out of their cars and onto our paths.
