A new decade for road safety is almost upon us. With the current WA State Road Safety Strategy: Towards Zero 2008-2020 expiring at the end of this year, preparations have been underway to shape the next decade of our journey to ensuring no one has to experience the devastating impacts of a fatal or serious crash.
Join us online to hear an update from the Road Safety Commission on progression of the next state strategy, and also from the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) and RAC on what they are doing to help reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on roads in WA.
The session will be divided into three sections as per below:
12.30-1.00pm – Update on the new State Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030
Teresa Williams – Director, Strategy, Policy and Legislation at the Road Safety Commission will provide an update on what was heard during the consultation process both from industry and the community, the latest community and attitude data, and what issues and opportunities this information means for us going forward.
1.00-1.15pm – The role of advocacy in strategy implementation
Sarah Macaulay – Senior Manager, Public Policy at RAC, will provide an overview of how RAC, as an advocate representing more than 1.1 million members, plays an important role in implementation of the state and national road safety strategies, and in particular, how it engages its membership and the community to bring them along on the journey.
1.15-1.30 pm – Developing a regional plan for road safety
Kirti Dhurandhar – Strategic Projects Officer at the EMRC, will provide a short overview of what the EMRC has been doing to improve road safety outcomes at the regional council/local government level. Her presentation will cover:
