Steven Burgess | Technical Director – Transport Planning | GHD
Steven is a change agent for quality urban life and guides governments and communities to understand land use, economic and movement policy reform to foster essential change. His superpower is encouraging communities and governments to choose a less trodden path towards more happy and healthy and prosperous communities.
Steven had conducted projects, workshops and city shaping masterclasses throughout Australia and New Zealand as well as Canada, USA, Central America, Middle East and Europe.
Parking is the Achilles’ heel of local government and small business. All things considered it is probably the issue that city shapers mess up more than any others. This is a problem because the way we manage parking is so crucial to the success of our urban settlements. Parking management is not about opinions or emotions. Although discussions about parking get opinionated and emotional, the facts don’t change. There are parking strategies that help cities become happy, healthy and prosperous and there are some that make cities sad and induce them to decay. So we should choose wisely…
Steven will talk about parking strategies from around the world and how they have helped and hindered. We can see where our Tasmanian villages, towns and cities are at, and perhaps discuss where they should be.
