Join us for an insightful panel discussion on the topic of women in leadership in transport, where we will explore the career and leadership experiences of women who have and continue to make a difference to the transport and infrastructure outcomes for communities. We will explore their motivations, challenges, and opportunities that have shaped their career paths and the contributions they have made to transport policy and infrastructure outcomes.

- Honourable Rachel Nolan, Executive Director of the McKell Institute and former Queensland Minister for Transport
- Nicole Vukic, National Transport Planning Manager, Arcadis

Romilly Madew AO FTSE | Chief Executive Officer | Infrastructure Australia
Romilly Madew AO FTSE was appointed Chief Executive Officer, Infrastructure Australia, in early 2019 and is responsible for overseeing Infrastructure Australia’s critical role in helping governments prioritise projects and reforms that best serve our communities.
Before joining Infrastructure Australia, Ms Madew was CEO of Green Building Council of Australia for 13 years. In acknowledgment of her contribution to Australia’s sustainable building movement, Ms Madew was awarded an Order of Australia in 2019.
Ms Madew is currently a Member of Placemaking NSW Advisory Committee and Independent Chair of the Currawong State Park Advisory Board (NSW). Ms Madew was recently on the Expert Advisory Panel for the CSIRO Report on Climate and Disaster Resilience and a Commissioner for the Northern Territory Economic Reconstruction Commission. She has held Board positions with the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council and Sydney Olympic Park Authority. She has sat on numerous Federal Government panels including the Cities Reference Group, National Sustainability Council, Climate Futures Independent Expert Group and the National Urban Policy Forum.
Ms Madew is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and Technology, Honorary Fellow, Planning Institute of Australia and Life Fellow GBCA. She is an active member of Bilgola Surf Life Saving Club as well as being involved in programs at both a State and National level for surf life saving. She is a Founder and Board member of Minerva Network, supporting our elite female athletes, which includes Romilly mentoring a member of Australia’s Olympic Team.
Honourable Rachel Nolan | Executive Director | McKell Institute and former Queensland Minister for Transport
Rachel Nolan is a consultant and non-executive director specialising in good government and sustainable infrastructure.
She currently serves as Executive Director of the McKell Institute, Queensland, a progressive public policy thinktank specialising in economic policy.
Ms Nolan is a director of Kambu Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Health, Chair of the West Moreton Diabetes Alliance and a board member at Luminary Partners Executive Recruitment. She also teaches governance to South East Asian governments through her role as a consultant to University of Queensland International Development.
Ms Nolan is a former Member of the Queensland Parliament and has held Ministerial roles including Minister for Finance, Transport, Natural Resources and Arts. In those roles she undertook a significant program of economic reform and redirected the Transport department towards sustainable transport including cycling.
Ms Nolan is an active runner, bushwalker and traveller. In 2013-14, she undertook a solo near overland journey from Ireland to Indonesia.
Nicole Vukic | National Transport Planning Manager | Arcadis
Nicole Vukic is a Transport Planner and Traffic Engineer with 20 years of experience in specialist and multi-disciplinary consultancies. Nicole is currently the National Transport Planning Manager for Arcadis and is responsible for building the organisation’s transport planning capability within Australia, which has seen the business transform and grow under her leadership. She is passionate about working on city-shaping projects, contributing to the creation of great places and influencing how people move between these places efficiently and sustainably.
Nicole has been fortunate to have had some inspiring mentors and sponsors in her career, who have contributed to shaping her professionally and helping her navigate the challenges that come with progressing into management roles. Committed to developing high performing teams and growing the talent pool within the industry, Nicole takes pride in sharing these experiences with people, assisting them with effective goal setting to enable them to advance their careers. Nicole mentors others in the business and encourages and supports them on their career journey.
