Alix Oakes | Principal Transport Planner, Practice Leader - Complete Streets | Stantec
When it comes to transport planning, Alix’s vision aligns with providing solutions that transcend transport systems and mobility—she believes in equitable accessibility for all. With 16 years of industry experience, she draws on her expertise when it comes to active transport, behaviour change, and sustainability. Having managed multidisciplinary projects of varying scales across two continents, Alix has worked at improving transport outcomes for people in schools, workplaces, hospitals, and new developments in the United Kingdom and Australia.
As an accredited Healthy Streets™ practitioner, Alix is a proud advocate for planning community spaces which are designed for people to connect and interact—not just spaces for road traffic. Recently, she undertook a detailed assessment of a town centre to improve its walkability, and contributed to a streetscape design based on Healthy Streets principles. Incorporating walkability into urban planning is recognised as a key factor in creating vibrant, sustainable, and healthy communities. Such initiatives aim to foster community health and wellness, ensuring that the needs of people walking and riding are met and that public spaces are more inviting and functional for everyone.

Nicole Vukic | Business Leader – Transport Planning and Advisory (National) | Arcadis
Nicole Vukic is a Transport Planner and Traffic Engineer with 20 years of experience in specialist and multi-disciplinary consultancies. Nicole is currently the National Transport Planning Manager for Arcadis and is responsible for building the organisation’s transport planning capability within Australia, which has seen the business transform and grow under her leadership. She is passionate about working on city-shaping projects, contributing to the creation of great places and influencing how people move between these places efficiently and sustainably.
Nicole has been fortunate to have had some inspiring mentors and sponsors in her career, who have contributed to shaping her professionally and helping her navigate the challenges that come with progressing into management roles. Committed to developing high performing teams and growing the talent pool within the industry, Nicole takes pride in sharing these experiences with people, assisting them with effective goal setting to enable them to advance their careers. Nicole mentors others in the business and encourages and supports them on their career journey.
When commencing her Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Environmental), Nicole quickly realised that she missed writing and changed to a double degree, combining engineering with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies. This resulted in her spending time studying and working in Germany, where she experienced how transport systems were supposed to work, igniting her interest in transport planning. Since then, Nicole has been driven by a purpose to ensure that we build for a transport system now and for the future.
