About this event
Micromobility vehicles, particularly e-scooters, have rapidly emerged as a popular transport option in cities worldwide, including South Australia. Several local trials have been conducted to understand their impact and feasibility. This event aims to share the valuable lessons learned from these trials, featuring insights from council representatives and the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) on the legalities surrounding e-scooters. The event concluded with an interactive session exploring the opportunities/implications of micromobility on our urban landscape in South Australia, followed by an opportunity to network.
Tea, coffee, and nibbles will be provided.
Logistics: You will be required to report at the concierge on the day to gain access to level 17 where the event will be held.
Andrew Parkinson | Department of Infrastructure and Transport
Andrew Parkinson heads up the Law Reform Unit in the Department of Infrastructure and Transport, where he’s worked for the last 15 years. He is the SA representative on the group advising the National Transport Commission on the shape of the model Australian Road Rules. Andrew has a keen interest in future mobility and urban planning, and in the transport system being a safe and accessible place for all users
Chris Dunn | City of Port Adelaide Enfield
Chris Dunn is an engineer with nearly 28 years in the civil/transport industry with a mix or both private and public sector experience. He is currently the Manager – Construction, Design & Transport at the City of Port Adelaide Enfield where he has been for nearly 7 years looking after a team of over 50 internal and field staff responsible for the delivery of approximately $40 million of civil infrastructure each year. He was heavily involved in the E-scooter coastal trial with the cities of Charles Sturt and West Torrens Councils from Outer Harbour to West Beach where a trial of e-scooters run by private operators was in existence from early 2020 to late 2022 (with a short hiatus during COVID).
Penelope Bennett | City of Adelaide
Penelope Bennett, currently at the City of Adelaide, is a Chartered Professional Engineer with a focus on transport and traffic. She has worked on the City of Adelaide shared e-scooter program and is currently leading the development of a new transport strategy. She studied engineering and science and later a Master of Urban Planning and thinks beyond engineering standards to experience for different people. She has worked in consultancy, construction and government in the UK, Singapore and Australia, including on the huge Singapore Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort and the fascinating Duchy of Cornwall Poundbury development. Working at the Level Crossing Removal Project (including as an Urban Design Advisory Panel member) and then the Suburban Rail Loop Authority, she focused on improving access to railway stations, especially for active travel. Penelope is now working to make Adelaide a safe, inclusive and joyful city.
