Meet the Experts
Andrew Weir | State Director (NSW) | Transport Analytics | Connexus Transport Advisory
Andrew is a highly experienced transport and city planning professional, with expertise in multi-modal transport modelling, demand and revenue forecasting for public transport services, economic appraisal, economic and business case development, data analytics and big data, accessibility analysis, stakeholder engagement and GIS.
He has worked on projects of local, regional and nationally strategic importance for clients, with his extensive Australian experience supplemented by high-profile work in the UK, EU, Singapore, Indonesia and the UAE. Andrew is an experienced project manager and project director, and has successfully overseen transport modelling and complex multidisciplinary commissions with TfNSW, IA, DPHI and Roads and Maritime, including model development, model application and peer review roles related to NSW strategic and operational models
Dr Emily Moylan | Senior Lecturer of Transport at the School of Civil Engineering | USYD
Emily Moylan is a Senior Lecturer of Transport at the School of Civil Engineering, University of Sydney, where she is leading a research program in the stochasticity of transport system performance. Emily’s research focuses on developing data-driven models and tools to unpack the richness of variation and provide more nuanced and accurate assessment of multimodal system performance. Emily has partnered with Transport for New South Wales, NSW Health, NSW Dept of Planning and Environment, the Office for Road Safety, and the US Transit Cooperative Research Program to translate her work into practice and policy
Tony Nichol | Crowd Safety Advisor
Tony is a Crowd Safety Advisor providing insights and solutions across design and operations for events, venues and operators. He specialises developing Crowd Management planning and using different crowd modelling techniques to provide solutions to complex mass participation events.
With over 14 years’ experience from around the UK, Europe and Australia, Tony has a Masters in Transport Engineering and Planning and a Masters in Crowd Safety and Risk Analysis. He is passionate about Crowd Safety and the application of the principles in event planning.
Denver D’Souza Alcântara | Senior Transport Planner | Transport for NSW
Denver has both commercial and intergovernmental management experience working on national public policy and strategies for behaviour change non-infrastructure solutions and major integrated transport infrastructure projects in Australia and New Zealand. Denver is also a passionate educator, working as a casual academic at UNSW, UTS and the University of Sydney acting as the Course Convenor, Lecturer and Tutor.
Lawrence Liang | Public artist and creative director
Lawrence Liang, a distinguished public artist and creative director based in Sydney, Australia, has been designing immersive public art installations since 2017. His practices focusing on utilizing the senses of space, sound and light to influence emotions and leave visitors with lasting impact.
Notable among his creations are "Nostalgia Above," a multimedia experience that explored mental health themes during Vivid Sydney 2019, and "Shell Resonance," an evocative installation at Sculpture by the Sea 2022, which addressed ocean pollution awareness.
Liang's expertise extends to urban design and architecture, where he consults on large-scale infrastructure projects. His project "Interwoven" (2023) transformed a transport hub into an artistic and sensory experience, enhancing aesthetics, community connectivity and safety.
Vidhya Thayananthan | Senior Transport Economist
Vidhya is a passionate economist that has helped government agencies, such as the NSW Department of Planning and NSW Treasury, by delivering muti-disciplinary and economic output such as strategic infrastructure assessments, business cases and cost benefit analysis. Prior to joining Arcadis, she established herself at a Big 4 firm and a boutique economic consulting firm. Vidhya has local and international experience, having worked, and completed her Masters in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Her strengths lie in both qualitative and quantitative analysis, particularly in consulting with stakeholders to solve complex issues.
Mariya Maslova | Associate Transport Modeller
Mariya is an Associate Transport Modeller with over sixteen years of industry experience across public and private sector in Australia, USA, and Canada. Her personal interests include advanced modelling techniques, including ABM and multi-resolution modelling, spanning across macroscopic, mesoscopic, hybrid, and microsimulation. Acknowledging that the transport world is complex and made of many layers and elements, in her work Mariya focuses on interpreting model assumptions and results to provide useful insights to project teams and stakeholders. Recently, Mariya had an opportunity to be part of the ABM PoC development for TfNSW, working alongside AAI staff to deliver a Proof-of-Concept Activity-Based Model. Mariya is also passionate about knowledge sharing and improving the modelling practice and she is an active member of the National Transport Modelling Network Committee.
Edward Forrester | Active Travel Expert
Ed is a senior transport planner and chartered environmentalist. He works in transport decarbonisation across all modes of transport and strives to help move away from the car dominant transport system we have today to a multi-modal transport system in the near future. He has worked across the Middle East and Australia and has a particular active transport - applying an environmental and in particular a carbon lens to everything he does both personally and professionally. He volunteers for Better Streets outside of work and looks for ways he can help support his local community to access safer more sustainable travel choices.
He is also a new father and he is acutely aware of the climate crisis that we are currently living in and the impact it is already having on his young family.
