About this event
Marco Te Brömmelstroet, an internationally renowned academic and author, is travelling to Australia to lecture at the 2023 AITPM Conference in Melbourne.
Marco (also known as the “Cycling Professor”) is a Professor and Chair of Urban Mobility Futures at the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research at the University of Amsterdam, founding academic director of the Urban Cycling Institute, and co-author of the book titled “Movement – how to take back our streets and transform our lives”. He is an avid promoter for cycling and in his teachings he challenges people to radically reimagine the way in which society thinks about mobility, transport systems, and the street.
'Movement' reflects on the apparent successes of Dutch cities and challenges us to rethink our ideas about transport to put people at the centre of urban design.
The lecture will be held in the Brisbane Square Library's Theatrette on Monday 25th September at 13:00. Booking is essential.

Marco Te Brömmelstroet
MARCO TE BRÖMMELSTROET holds the chair on Urban Mobility Futures at the University of Amsterdam. He teaches about the relations between urban development and mobility behavior. In his research he studied the use of transport models, the role of cycling in cities and society and the way in which mobility innovations shape our future. He is chairman of the board of the Urban Cycling Institute and founding director of the Lab of Thought. In academic- and societal debates he critically reflects on the narratives that are used to think about mobility and constructively points to the power of alternative narratives.
