Brett Williams | City of Onkaparinga
As a degree-qualified civil engineer, Brett Williams’ career has involved traffic engineering and transport planning roles spanning over 18 years in local government, state government and private consulting. Whilst Brett has had considerable success in attracting road safety grant funding throughout his career, including almost $23mil for 50 separate Black Spot projects across three different councils, the reactive nature of these programs has always meant that road trauma first needs to have occurred before upgrades are eventually implemented. As the Safe System approach continues to become more embedded into the way we work, Brett has increasingly become committed towards advocating for more proactive ways to improve road safety both within his role at the City of Onkaparinga, as well as through other avenues such as involvement such as the Australasian College of Road Safety as well as being the sole local government representative within the Project Control Group for the Austroads project ‘Charting a Path to Eliminating Road Death and Serious Injury’.
Chris Stokes | CASR
Dr Chris Stokes has been working with the CASR since July, 2014. He originally graduated from The University of Adelaide with a degree in civil and structural engineer (2009) and then with a PhD in civil engineering (2014). Chris’ research is heavily involved with aligning road infrastructure and traffic management to Safe System thinking, with publications through Austroads and the Australasian College of Road Safety. Chris’ work includes data collection.
Mario Mongiardini | CASR
Dr Mario Mongiardini’s research focus is on safety of road infrastructure, with specific emphasis on the implementation of the Safe System approach solutions to achieve various objectives ranging from speed mitigation in dangerous zones to shielding road users from hazards. He has gained experience in performing detailed analysis of various types of data applied to road safety research projects, including analysis of the speed mitigation created by specific ITS solutions applied at rural intersections and analysis of data from Naturalistic Driving Studies (NDS) to identify the interaction between travel speed and infrastructure.
Jeremy Woolley | CASR
Associate Professor Jeremy Woolley is the director of the Centre For Automotive Safety Research at the University of Adelaide. He has over 20 years of experience in road safety research across many areas including infrastructure, intelligent transport systems, traffic modelling, enforcement, regulation, speed management, heavy vehicles and countermeasure evaluation. Jeremy currently leads a group of talented and capable researchers at CASR and is keen to conduct work that fills in knowledge gaps and provides capability in relation to the ultimate elimination of harm from use of the road transport system. CASR possesses unique insights on road safety from its crash investigation, vehicle testing and data analysis activities.
