Presentations for this seminar include:
- Alton Twine - A Report from VeloCity 2024 – Global initiatives on cycling and lessons for the Queensland context
The VeloCity conference series is an annual global conference dedicated to cycling in cities, encompassing all aspects of cycling: transport planning and engineering, promotion, behaviour change, city development, innovation, governance and administration. In June this year the conference was held in Ghent Belgium, attracting more than 1700 delegates from over 60 countries.
Alton attended the conference and this presentation reports back on key findings on global initiatives on cycling, analysing how the trends and innovations have applicability in the Queensland context. Of particular interest to Toowoomba, is the consideration of Cycling Streets in the European context, noting Toowoomba City Council’s recent innovative treatment of Pierce Street as a Safe Active Street.
- Anna Campbell - Safer Streets
“Safer Streets” is part of the latest Call to Action from the Queensland Walking Alliance, a coalition facilitated by Queensland Walks. The Alliance, a group of 30 organisations representing more than 2 million Queenslanders is prioritising the safety of people walking, rolling and strolling by making key recommendations to Queensland councils, state government and in the design of masterplanned communities.
Anna will share the findings from the experiences of Queensland walkers collected through the Walk My Street checklist, and take a walk through the simple changes in the short term, through to the more complex infrastructure that will create safer streets for walking and riding.
