About this event
AITPM VIC YPN and WSP are pleased to welcome young professionals and students for the in-person "Being in the transport industry" event.
Hear from Sarah Lowe, Edwin Chan, and Matthew Raisbeck who have a range of experience and skills in both the public and private sector across traffic and transport planning, engineering, design, and modelling. Following the speaker presentations, there will be an opportunity to ask questions about working in the traffic and transport industry and network with other professionals in the industry.
This is a catered event held at WSP’s Southbank office on Wednesday 30th March 2022.
AITPM membership is free for students and postgraduates.

Sarah Lowe | WSP
Sarah is a chartered principal transport engineer in WSP’s Planning and Mobility team. She has 18 years’ experience across traffic engineering and transport planning. Sarah has a strong interest in shaping networks, streets and places for people, particularly through improving active transport networks.
Sarah has worked on a wide range of transport projects across the project life cycle, from project planning and strategic assessment through to post completion evaluation of the benefits of projects. Her areas of work include a focus on strategic transport planning and advisory, active transport, Movement and Place and precincts; as well as major projects and transport impact assessments.
Edwin Chan | SMEC
Edwin is an experienced Transport Engineer with more than 13 years’ public sector and private consulting experience. Edwin’s career commenced with an introduction to road safety, traffic engineering, modelling and road design at the Department of Transport (VicRoads), following graduation from Monash University with a Bachelor Degree of Mechanical Engineering in 2007. After spending nine years with VicRoads, Edwin diversified his experience in metro station and major freeway planning and design projects at Mott MacDonald, WSP, BG&E and SMEC. His cumulated project experience spans across the states of VIC, NSW, TAS and WA.
Edwin is proud to be involved in the recent Mordialloc Freeway, North East Link and Metro Tunnel projects which entails unique planning approaches and design solutions.
He specialises in transport engineering and microsimulation modelling with a strong interest in machine learning, user-centric design and network optimisation. Further to his project experience, Edwin has undertaken team leader and business development roles.
Edwin is passionate about the growth and talents of undergraduates and young professionals, and is keen to provide insight and guidance for career development and research opportunities.
Matthew Raisbeck | Stantec
Matthew is a skilled transport planner who applies direct experience from government to developing transport strategies, business cases, transport investments, policy settings and evaluation frameworks. He also develops plans and initiatives that integrates transport modes into Places. He specialises in public transport network planning and is an experienced strategic demand forecasting advisor. Matthew has over 17 years’ experience in the transport industry, with more than five years at Stantec leading modelling, planning and advisory projects. Prior to that he worked in network planning, survey design and data analysis at Public Transport Victoria, Department of Transport and the Department of Infrastructure.
