About this event
This webinar will present on some recent active transport initiatives in Western Australia, with a particular focus on cycling data collection and community attitude to cycling. This webinar would be relevant to technical or transport policy professionals.
Speakers include:
- Craig Wooldridge, Main Roads WA; James Pearse, WSP; and Chao Sun, PATREC - Automated Intelligence for Analysing Cyclist and Pedestrian Video Surveillance
- Dylan Melsom, RAC - Insights from the RAC's walking and cycling surveys

Craig Wooldridge | Main Roads WA
Craig Wooldridge has extensive experience in the transport planning and traffic engineering professions gained through 39 years in the industry. Craig is currently the Manager Project Development at Main Roads with responsibility for developing projects for road safety, congestion, cycling, bus priority and bridges.
Craig is a Past Chair of Cycling and Walking Australia and New Zealand, a Past National President of the Australian Institute of Transport Planning and Management and is Director Urban Mobility on the WestCycle Board.
James Pearse | WSP
James Pearse is an experienced transportation consultant based in Perth, Western Australia. James holds a Bachelor of Civil of Engineering (Hons) from UWA and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from Curtin University. For the past seven years James has worked at WSP where he has led numerous transport planning studies for public and private sector clients. Key areas of interest for James include active transport, public transport and road safety. James is a member of AITPM and Engineers Australia.
Chao Sun | PATREC
Chao Sun is a transport researcher at the Planning and Transport Research Centre (PATREC). He has experience in both academia and industry, where he participated in a range of research and consulting activities including some large-scale infrastructure and mining projects. Since joining PATREC, he has been leveraging his unique combination of experiences and skills to actively bridge the gap between industry, government and academia.
Dylan Melsom | RAC
Dylan Melsom is a Transport & Land Use Planner in RAC WA’s Social Impact team. His career to date has focused on improving equitable access to sustainable mobility, particularly through improving active travel outcomes on projects. He has worked on a wide range of major infrastructure and planning projects across Australia, the UK and Ireland.
