Every Local Government has a need to collect traffic data on their roads. But how do they go about doing this? Various LGAs have various programs that are used to fulfil their need for collecting data, and in this event, we will hear from three LGA representatives and their viewpoints. This event will cover the methods used to create, implement and execute various Traffic Data Collection programs from the LGA perspective
Lisa Godfrey – City of Joondalup
Lisa has been in the City of Joondalup’s Transport Engineering Team as a Road Safety Officer for approximately eight years. In that time, my work has consisted of road safety promotion, MRRG and Black Spot grant funding submissions, consultancy requests relating to traffic signal modifications, responding to requests regarding the City’s road network and the Traffic Count Program. Lisa will be presenting on how the City of Joondalup manages its Traffic Count Program, the where’s, the how’s, the why’s and the pros and cons of the methodology the City uses.
Tom Carroll – City of Mandurah
Tom has worked in the role of Traffic & Transport Engineer at the City of Mandurah for 18 months following 10 years as both an engineering surveyor and civil designer in a mix of both local government and private industry roles. Tom will be speaking about the various reasons why the City of Mandurah collects traffic data and how it is used to inform and monitor strategic decisions at the City.
Shane Pope – City of Stirling
Shane is the Road Safety Officer at the City of Stirling and has run the community road safety program within the City’s Engineering Services business unit since 2008. He will be presenting on the evolution of the City’s traffic count program from an internal staff model to a contractor provided service and discussing the outsourcing of the data collection component of the program.
Russell Jones – Austraffic WA
Russell has been the Principal of Austraffic WA for the last eight years. During that time he has seen a wide variety of traffic count programs from local governments. He will be presenting on how these programs look from a contractor's perspective, along with tips on getting the most out of your contractor.
