Fiona Goodbody | Cycling, Department of Transport
Fiona Goodbody, Coordinator of Regional Bike Networks and Programs at the Department of Transport, will be presenting on her evolving bicycle infrastructure delivery model, explaining how it helps produce better outcomes through collaborative, participatory project planning and delivery.
Fiona’s background is in sustainable behaviour change, community infrastructure development and community engagement mainly on transport projects over the past ten years. Fiona came to the transport industry through a bit of side door when she left a publishing traineeship in 2011 to take a five week contract with a travel behaviour change team. Fiona got the ‘transport bug’ and since then, has primarily worked on designing and delivering programs focused on enabling more people to walk and cycle for everyday trips, as well as on infrastructure projects to make these modes safer, more convenient and more enjoyable.
As a ‘non-planner’ in a planning world, her work tends to be positioned at the intersection of planning, engagement and technical design, working to bring these different elements and expertise together to shape community places, services and facilities that meet a broader range of needs.
Justine Smith | Travel Behaviour Change, Department of Transport
Justine Smith, Senior Program Officer within Travel Behaviour Change team at the Department of Transport, will present on how to design behavioural interventions that work to influence voluntary travel behaviour – more walking, bike riding and use of public transport.
Justine is a passionate advocate of sustainable and active travel whose main motivation is to work towards a safe and clean environment that contributes to the mitigation of global warming and building healthy communities. Holding degrees in both sustainability and psychology, she is well placed to design and deliver travel demand management initiatives, including the award-winning travel behaviour change program Your Move.
Aaron MacNish | Traffic Engineer, GTA Consultants, now Stantec
Aaron MacNish is a Senior Consultant working for GTA, now Stantec. Aaron has a Bachelor of Engineering with Honors in Civil and Construction engineering from Curtin University. After graduating Aaron began his engineering career in local government being exposed to project management, engineering design, asset management, and construction of projects ranging from a few thousand dollars to multibillion dollar state projects.
Roads have a historical tendency to dominate our subdivisions, with design emphasis being placed on the movement of people in private vehicles, resulting in a network often designed for cars and dominated by cars. During his time in local government, Aaron saw the costs and difficulty in retrofitting suburbs with traffic management devices in an attempt to lower speeds and discourage through traffic to provide a better street environment for local residents. At GTA, now Stantec Aaron is working with developers in designing local streets from the outset to incorporate low speed, safe neighbourhood street principles into their subdivisions.
Aaron provides an example of a recent subdivision in Brabham for PEET and Development WA, where the project team is working with developers and the local government to deliver an alternative street form that has resulted in a local street that discourages through traffic, encourages walking and cycling and supports a low speed safe street environment for all movement network users.
Andrew Cox | Senior Strategic Network Planner (Rail), Public Transport Authority
Andrew Cox is the Senior Strategic Network Planner within the Public Transport Authority’s Rail Planning Team.
Andrew is responsible for the development of the PTA’s Rail Growth Plan. The Rail Growth Plan produces and evaluates strategies and plans for the PTA’s response to planned land use, employment and population changes around the rail network.
