About this event
Healthy Streets® is a human-centred framework for embedding public health in transport, public realm and planning. The 10 Healthy Streets Indicators focus on the human experience needed on all streets, everywhere, for everyone.
The Healthy Streets Approach was adopted by the Mayor of London nearly 10 years ago and has spread across the UK and Europe to Australia and New Zealand over the past 5 years. The framework is supported by a range of free tools to help put Healthy Streets into practice, and embed Healthy Streets into all phases of a project. Awareness of Healthy Streets is growing in Australia and practitioners are adapting the Approach for application in the Australian context.
Join Lucy Saunders, Director of Healthy Streets, for an insightful discussion on the Healthy Streets Approach and how to encourage systems-change. This webinar will also include insights from James Laing, Senior Principal Transportation Designer at Stantec, who will share key takeaways from his experience implementing Healthy Streets in Australia.
This webinar offers a sneak peek of what is to come from Lucy before the AITPM National Transport Conference, giving you the chance to hear Lucy share her expertise on creating healthier, people-focused streets before having the chance to meet her in person in Adelaide in September!
The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session, offering a chance to dive deeper into the application and challenges of implementing Healthy Streets.
Registrations close Monday 28 April 2025.

Lucy Saunders | Director | Healthy Streets
Lucy Saunders is a unique combination of public health specialist, urbanist and transport planner. She created the Healthy Streets Approach, an evidence based- framework for decision making at every level. She works with organisations across the world adapting her Approach to each context.
The success of the Healthy Streets Approach is its wide-reaching resonance across political, special interest and professional divides. Lucy uses this Approach to engage, influence and coordinate a wide range of stakeholders around a coherent vision. She is a skilled and engaging presenter and teacher who has inspired and trained hundreds of practitioners, advocates and politicians around the world.

Her highly influential work put health at the heart of city policy in London. Healthy Streets is the framework of the Mayor's 25 year Transport Strategy, a pillar of the London Plan and part of all the Mayor's statutory strategies. She used her strategic thinking and analytical skills to embed the Healthy Streets Approach in the governance of the E2.3b TfL Healthy Streets funding pot.
She develops bespoke tools to enable practitioners to apply the Healthy Streets Approach in horizon scanning, case making, design, implementation and evaluation.
She advises the World Health Organisation, UK Government Departments for Transport and Health, Faculty of Public Health and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. She has worked across a wide range of organisations from local to international level including NHS, government, academic, private and voluntary sector.
