Meet an AITPM Leader | Katrina Loader

We talked to Katrina Loader, the Secretary of the AITPM in NSW.
I am a transport planner with a passion for influencing great place outcomes through integrated transport and land use planning, mum of two primary school kids who enjoys playing water polo and travelling, when Covid permits.
What is your current role?:
Acting Senior Project Manager in the Integrated Precincts Team within the Infrastructure and Place Division of Transport for NSW.
What first attracted you to get involved in the transport industry?
As an Environmental Planning graduate in Brisbane, I was lucky enough to win a Graduate Town Planning role with the former QLD Department for Main Roads in Cairns. So I kind of fell into the transport industry and never looked back.
Could you explain some key opportunities in your career and how they contributed to your development?
Seeking out new and different opportunities (across three states and 2 countries), embracing change and learning from others has been key for my career development.
What is your involvement with AITPM?
AITPM NSW Committee member since 2017 and Secretary since 2019
Why do you volunteer with the AITPM?
Continuous development and opportunities for sharing and learning from others has always been an important part of my transport planning career and I enjoy helping to facilitate opportunities to hear and learn from others in the industry.
What has been a memorable moment in your career?
Delivering all of the pink spectator wayfinding and signage through the transport network and on street to help spectators arrive at their venues for the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games.
What are your personal and/or professional career plans for the future?
To continuously work towards living a work life balance that meets the needs of my family as well as my own career goals of continuing to influence great outcomes for transport customers.
Do you have any advice you would like to share to professionals in the transport/traffic industry?
Transport professionals are all people and embracing diversity in all areas is important for developing and implementing solutions that meet the community’s needs.
