Machine Learning is a form of artificial intelligence concerned with the self-development (without instruction) of rules and algorithms by computers. The area draws from a range of other disciplines including statistics, computer science and neural networks. The use of machine learning is rapidly changing the way we process and understand the world in a variety of fields including engineering and planning. Transport has often been an early adopter of such tools for addressing some of the complex problems that we face. As a tool to assess aspects of travel behaviour and achieve efficiencies in our networks, machine learning has many advantages over traditional approaches but also has some limitations as well. This seminar explores some of these aspects with consideration to its application in real world transport planning cases and how they can transform how we shape the future.

Join Lucy Saunders, Director of Healthy Streets, for an insightful discussion on the Healthy Streets Approach and how to encourage systems-change. This webinar will also include insights from James Laing, Senior Principal Transportation Designer at Stantec, who will share key takeaways from his experience in implementing Healthy Streets in Australia. The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session, offering a chance to dive deeper into the application and challenges of implementing Healthy Streets.
