ABSTRACT
New Zealand trip making characteristics have been compared in NZTA Research Report 659 - Urban transport modelling in New Zealand – data, practice and resourcing July 2019. The paper will extend those comparisons using Australian data to compare and contrast cities within and between countries.
Background, findings, conclusion: The New Zealand analysis suggests that there is a significant degree of comparability between cities. Extension into Australia will improve the sample, and should lead to the conclusion that trip rates by household category can be applied to other cities. If this is proven, then the current data sets can be applied in other areas avoiding expensive household travel surveys.
